To Build or To Buy
At Artemis Homes, we’re often asked whether it’s better to build or to buy a pre-built home. We answer that it depends on the home buyer!
Many home buyers are undeniably attracted to the idea of building a home to their exclusive tastes, from the choice of land to the finishing touches. This is a reality for many, but not without some considerations that should be well-thought out beforehand.
1. Cost
Are you financially comfortable with the idea that you won’t know to the penny how much your house may cost from the outset? Those who build are often doing so to capture their vision of a dream home. While you will start with a budget, on-the-fly decisions about what you’d like to see in the finished product may add to the final cost.
2. Accommodation
Do you have a plan for where you will live while you are building your new home? Is it viable? Will living with a parent or in-laws for a year or more be in the best interests of all concerned? If you own a house already, are you prepared to handle the transition of selling your house while moving into your new home?
3. Constraints
If you are in a relationship, do you and your spouse share a similar vision? Building a house can add stress to a relationship if both partners aren’t committed to the investment of time and resources.
2. Goals
Do you plan on staying in the house longer term? Building a new home often means falling in love with the final product, so selling may seem difficult after putting heart and soul into building.
A pre-built home provides a clear line of sight regarding cost and can help you settle into your new home in a much shorter period. However, many people embrace the idea and work of building a new home. At Artemis Homes, we enjoy the best of both worlds. We never tire of any part of the building process, whether working with clients to build the home of their dreams or finding that home among our existing builds. Our favorite day is always when we hand over the keys to our new homeowners.
