Exterior Meets Interior

In this week’s blog, exterior meets interior! When embarking on a new home project, we believe it’s wise to consider both the exterior and interior design from the outset. This approach ensures a seamless and harmonious flow, setting the tone for the entire home from the moment you first approach it!

The curb appeal of a house is a significant factor, enhancing both day-to-day living and the potential sale of your home. Neutral colours like beige, off-white, grey, ivory, and cream have traditionally been popular for their clean and contemporary look, but there are exceptions. For example, dark blue has resurged due to its ability to blend with natural building product colours!

Flow from Exterior to Interior

Once you’ve determined an exterior colour for your home and whether there will be natural accents like wood or stone, then it’s time to consider the full effect of the flow from exterior to interior. Ideas to blend the two environments include the following:

COLOUR

Consider using the same paint colour throughout your foyer and living room to create a seamless transition from the exterior to the interior.

ARTWORK

There are many choices suitable for interior and exterior design. If you live in a rural area, your artwork inside the house could reflect the exterior landscape. Outside, you could add touches that reflect the rural setting through the added use of wood or stone or even objects that reflect rural living, which can be used as planters. Using greenery inside that reflects the changing seasons or picks up elements of an outdoor garden can align the two environments.

MATERIAL

If a particular wood is used outside, consider using the same wood in the same colour hue for your entrance flooring. If you have brick on the outside, creating a brick feature wall inside can unify the look of your home.

ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES

If your home has columns or other notable features on the outside, look at creating a smaller version of that look on the inside.

FURNITURE

Your choice of furniture plays a crucial role in supporting the overall feel of your home, starting from the moment you take in the exterior. For instance, a modern-looking home with modern furniture creates a coordinated impression.

A house’s statement can be as individual as its owner. With forethought, that vision can be conveyed from the moment you arrive at the home. It only takes a little planning to create a consistent balance when exterior meets interior.
